WORTHING drug suspect arrested after road crash

A SUSPECTED drug dealer was arrested after his car crashed into a taxi and ploughed into a shop window while he was fleeing from police.

The 43-year-old Worthing man suffered a head injury in the crash and was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply and failing to stop for police.

Detectives are waiting to question the man, who remains under observation at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

The crash took place in Western Road, Brighton, at the junction with Montpelier Road, at around 2.45am this morning (Friday, February 6).

Police said a Vauxhall Astra being driven by the man collided with a taxi and then hit a bin on the pavement and the window of a music shop.

A man walking nearby was hit by the bin and suffered a suspected fractured hip. He was also taken to hosptial.

The driver and passengers in the taxi were unhurt.

At the time of the crash a marked traffic police car had its blue lights on in an attempt to stop the Astra.

the Independent Police Complaints Commission were immediately contacted but will not be investigating.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 0845 60 70 999 quoting Operation Chalton.
