Worthing firm's 'kidnap' for charity

AN accountancy firm has been persuaded to sponsor a fund-raising event in aid of Worthing's disabled ex-servicemen and women after its staff members were held "hostage".

Chris Coopey, practice director of Carpenter Box, decided to sponsor "Hero for a Day" '” a event organised by Gifford House '” after he received photographs of two of his accountants, Fiona Smoith and Clare Bean, being held "hostage" as they undertook audit work at the charity's headquarters in Boundary Road, Worthing.

Chris, not trained in hostage negotiation, offered to swap his wife for the missing accountants, but this was turned down by the charity, so the sponsorship deal was struck.
