Worthing girl Hayley walks again two weeks after car crash

TWO weeks ago, Hayley Pierce was fighting for her life after an horrific car crash '“ now the determined teenager is able to walk and talk about her future.

The 18-year-old, who is a hairdresser at Diamond Cut in Goring, suffered severe head injuries after the crash in Southwick on March 5, which killed the car's driver James Thetford.

Hayley's father Gerry Pierce, 45, said his family were "elated" when Hayley managed to get up and walk for the first time on Saturday, March 21.

He said: "It is amazing. The difference compared to now and two weeks ago is amazing, she is such a fighter and so determined to get better."

Mr Pierce said doctors are unsure what the long- term implications of Hayley's head injury will be.

He added: "She is suffering from both short and long-term memory loss. She cannot remember anything about the crash.

"We are very positive because she is still Hayley, with her wonderful personality. We just have to take each day as it comes now."

Hayley will now receive further treatment and a series of physiotherapy sessions at hospital in Haywards Heath.
