Worthing joins in Silver Sunday for first time

The national day was launched in 2012 by the Sir Simon Milton Foundation and councillor Christabel Flight, after a report discovered more than a third of people aged over 75 said they were lonely.

The aim was to help them get out and about to meet new people and this year’s event has been organised for Sunday, October 2.

For the first year, Worthing is taking part, with Guild Care, Mind and Worthing Borough Council working together to offer a choice of events for friends and family to enjoy.

Guild Care is holding an open day at Methold House, North Street, from 10.30am to 3.30pm.

In the morning, there will be a chance to see the wide range of social activities, interest groups, lunches and exercise sessions on offer.

From 1.30pm, the café will be serving cream teas, with live music for entertainment.

Coastal West Sussex Mind will also be attending to give people the chance to get together for some arts and crafts.

The charity’s Open Minds anti-stigma and awareness team will be on hand to talk about mental health awareness and some of the services on offer.

Worthing Theatres will be offering discounted cinema tickets to see the The Magnificent Seven.
