Worthing kitesurfer breaks world record

Led by former British kitesurfing champion Lewis Crathern from Worthing, kitesurfers around the world broke a Guinness World Record.

At the weekend, 423 surfers took to the water at Hayling Island, Hampshire for the Virgin Kitesurfing Armada festival course and grabbed the title for the largest parade of kitesurfers.

The previous record was 416 kitesurfers which was set in Cape Town, South Africa.

Sophia Greenacre, official adjudicator from Guinness World Records, said: “Huge congratulations to everyone for three-and-a-half hours of determined kitesurfing.”

Dan Charlish, event organiser, said: “It’s been an amazing experience. It’s a fantastic total and everone should be really proud.”
