Worthing photographer in top ten

Ella Penn, a 27-year-old Northbrook College photography graduate, was surprised but delighted to hear she was a finalist in the eHarmony Love Captured competition.

Her picture, called ‘Love is the journey’, shows the shadow of an older couple walking behind one another on a cloudy day. It is due to be exhibited later this year with the other nine UK finalists.

Ella explained: “The image was taken on the Sussex Downs one Sunday morning in early spring.

“The sky was really fantastic that day and the sun was really shinning. I remember seeing this elderly couple walking along the higher part of the hill.

“I took a quick snap and when I looked on the screen I saw that they looked like silhouettes walking amongst the heavens. I thought how lovely they looked and hoped that this would be me and my partner in years to come.

“I decided to enter this image into the eHarmony Love Captured competition this year as I thought it fitted the brief perfectly.

“I was really surprised when I was told that I had been placed eighth in the final competition, out of more than 1,000 entries.”

The competition winner was Waiting for Grandpa, a charming photo by Sebastian Czubachowski of a young boy and his dog waiting at a window.

The contest, the second of what has become an annual event, asked the nation to submit photographs demonstrating what the word ‘love’ meant to them.

Romain Bertrand, UK managing director of eHarmony, said: “We are very proud to continue the competition for a second year and make a tradition of asking the nation to show us what love means to them.

“We may be experts in bringing our users the perfect match but it is great that many of these photos go beyond romance, showing the beauty of love in all its forms.”

All entries, including Ella’s submission, can be seen at lovecaptured.eharmony.co.uk.

The photographic artist also has an image on display on Worthing Pier in the Creative Waves exhibition.
