Worthing runners caught up in Boston Marathon chaos

A PAIR of runners from Worthing were taking part in the Boston Marathon when explosions at the finish line killed three people and injured more than 100.

Martin Satchell, 50, of Worthing and District Harriers, had already completed the race when the explosions happened, while Graham Khanna, 40, was still running at the time ‑ according to the marathon website’s tracking facility.

Maureen Stephens, from the Harriers, said she had spoken to a close friend of Martin last night, who said he was safe and well.

She said: “When I looked at his time online I thought he should have been well clear and I spoke to a very close friend of his late last night when the news broke, who said he was safe.

“It’s a dreadful thing to have happened.”

The race was thrown into chaos when two explosions occurred.

The first explosion happened at about 2.50pm local time (6.50pm in the UK) and a second blast followed seconds later.
