Detective sergeant Alan Pack, of Arun CID, said: "We are not treating this as suspicious but we are conducting a thorough and detailed inquiry which will be passed to the coroner.

"Several of Robert's friends have already provided witness statements for which I am grateful but if anyone else has useful information then I would ask that they would contact us."

The cause of death is unknown, and a post-mortem examination will be carried out later this week.

Anyone with information should call Littlehampton Police on 0845 60 70 999, quoting Operation Harbury, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
