Worthing teenager shaves head for charity

A WORTHING teenager let his friend and mum shave his head to raise money for the charity who helped his four-month-old brother who was diagnosed with a rare liver disease.

Daniel Dean, a pupil at St Andrew's High School for Boys, raised almost 2,000 for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation with the help from family, friends and neighbours.

The 13-year-old had his long hair ceremoniously shaved off at Montage Hair Salon in Brighton Road and his brother Cameron was there to watch.

He said: "When my brother had his operation, I thought everything was ok.

"But when mum and dad explained that there was a long way to go I wanted to do something to help Cameron and children like him."

Proud family

Daniel's mum Kelly, of Wyke Avenue, said: "Daniel's dad and I are incredibly proud of him.

"He grew his hair for two years to get his surfer curls and it's brilliant that he wanted to shave them off to support the foundation.

"CLDF has been a real lifeline to our family since Cameron's diagnosis.

"Although Cameron is well at the moment, we don't know what the future holds.

"He may need a liver transplant one day so there is a lot of uncertainty."

Just five weeks after Cameron's birth, the family went from Worthing Hospital to King's College Hospital in London where he braved exhaustive testing until finally being diagnosed with a rare liver disease.

Four days later, Cameron underwent hours of life-saving surgery.
