Would-be Carnival Queens enter annual competition

ASPIRING young carnival queens have started submitting their entries with the hope of being crowned this year’s Carnival Queen and Miss Hastings.

Organisers of the Old Town Carnival are currently looking for a new Carnival Queen and Court for 2014.

So far applicants include 15-year-old Meghan Ripley, of North Road, 14-year-old Rebecca Davage, of Brook Street, who enjoys modelling, and Hannah Burgess, 15, of Winchelsea Road, who is training with West End Kids Training Company for Performing Arts.

The selection date will be on Sunday, April 13 and full details with entry form are online on the carnival’s official website, www.1066.net/carnival.

Carnival spokesman Ion Castro said: “The Carnival Court doesn’t just sit on the float during the procession, they get involved in many, many events throughout the year - just look at our website.

“We know that last year’s court will be a hard act to follow but we also know that there are lots of Hastings and St Leonards young ladies out there who can rise to the challenge so now’s the time to participate in one of Hastings’ best and biggest events of the year.”

Carnival Day this year is on August 2.
