Wow, what a great response to Tin Appeal!

And the response to the annual event was huge with the tins, boxes and selection boxes filling bags and bags.

Nicola Long, from the Observer's distribution department (pictured), said: "There was a fantastic response. It gets better and better every year.

"A big thank you to everyone."

The appeal was supported by Tesco, Safeway and Sainsburys which have collected donations in their stores since November 28.

Shoppers also gave donations at the Observers' offices in Bexhill and Hastings.

The gifts were donated to the Surviving Christmas charity, St Jude's Women's Refuge, Turner House, Age Concern and Young Persons Supported Accommodation Project on December 23.
