Writing successes

Two dyslexic students from Bognor Regis Community College have won awards in the first national creative story-writing competition for students with the condition.

Samuel Williams (16) came first in his age group by impressing the judges with his idea on what he would do if he became prime minister for a day. Sophie Bickle (14) was third in the same year group with her thoughts about being a temporary PM.

Their essays reflected the need to tackle global warming, in line with the college work they were studying at the time they wrote them.

Samuel and Sophie attended an award ceremony at the House of Commons, where they received trophies from Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave.

The students also won for the college and themselves more than 6,000 worth of computer software which makes reading and writing easier for students with dyslexia.

Both students attend the college's special support centre which supports students who have a specific learning difficulty.
