X-Factor star to join Arundel by Candlelight fun

The runner-up of the hit ITV talent show will be switching on the Christmas lights of the town’s tree on Saturday, December 6, alongside fellow guests, the Duchess of Norfolk, and children’s television star Richard David-Caine.

The event attracts thousands to the town. Mayor Michael Tu said: “Arundel by Candlelight has become a huge annual Christmas event in West Sussex.

“I look forward to seeing the streets thronging with people enjoying the festivities. The chamber of commerce and team have worked tirelessly to organise the day.”

This year’s programme promises to be as packed as ever, with event sponsors RINKIT.com and Pegasus Properties offering an extra injection of support.

The evening’s entertainment has been organised by Sharon Blaikie, of Landon Sounds Events Studios, on behalf of the chamber of commerce.

She said: “New this year is the amazing stage at the top of the High Street with a professional sound system.

“Crown Yard will also enjoy live unplugged music from Horsham Borough Brass Band.”

The day kicks-off at 1pm, in High Street, with an ecumenical carol service led by Arundel Baptist Church, St Nicholas Church and members from Arundel Cathedral all supported by the Arun Choral Society.

Father Christmas will be welcoming children to the Arundel Museum, in Mill Road, between 1pm-4.30pm.

The museum will be open from 10am to 7.30pm with the return of the popular teddy bear road show where revellers can bring along their favourite furry buddy to be valued by an expert.

Arundel’s High Street will become a hive of activity from 5pm as the tree lighting ceremony begins.

The magnificent tree has once again been provided by the Norfolk Estate and erected by the Arundel Rotary Club.

A range of live music, from carol groups, choirs, the TLA Steel Band and other musicians, will be taking place throughout the town during the day.

High Street and Tarrant Street will be closed to traffic from 7am to midnight.

However, there will still be full access to the Mill Road and Lido car parks which are free from 1pm onwards. Crown Yard car park will be closed on the day.

Drivers are advised to arrive into town via the A27 on the eastern side of Arundel to gain access to car parks.
