A DISTRESS call was sounded from a disabled yacht after it ran aground while navigating the sea around Beachy Head.

The drama unfolded when the boat could not sail and lost engine power at the same time, yesterday, August 17.

Eastborne RNLI lifeboat was launched into action after receiving the ‘Pan Pan’ distress call and sped its way to the yacht.

A RNLI spokesman said: “The notoriously turbulent waters around the headland were rapidly sweeping the vessel uncontrolled westward.

“The volunteer ALB crew located the casualty two miles from its original location and took it under tow to Sovereign Harbour.”
