Yapton and Ford village hall is reborn

A web-savvy village hall is bursting back into life.

The Yapton and Ford Village Hall has organised a string of fund-raising events aimed at putting it back on the map.

Chairman of the Yapton and Ford village hall committee Roy Phillips said: “An exciting programme of events is being planned with a view to raising funds for continued improvements to the premises for the benefit of the local population it serves.”

The hall, which was in danger of closure in 2009 because of lack of use and funding issues, is now back in the black, and subject to a rolling programme of repairs to ensure the facilities meet those users would expect when hiring a modern venue.

The management committee is determined to ensure it offers a wide-ranging selection of events catering for all tastes to raise
funds for the further improvement of the premises.

As part of the hall’s re-invigoration programme, a new website has been set up, which provides details of the facilities on offer, and both regular and one-off events.

Mr Phillips said: “The management of the hall is determined to continue to raise funds for the facility, but at the same time provide quality entertainment and events for the community the hall services, rather than simply re-visiting the same old format of jumble sales and coffee mornings that was the way fund-raising was carried out in the past.”

Mr Phillips hopes hall users will bookmark the new website’s special events page.

Planned up-and-coming events can be found on the special events page of the website.

Scheduled entertainment includes a performance of Caruso and The Quake by writer Andrew G.Marshall who conjures up a picture of horror during the San Francisco earthquake of 1906.

Also due to appear is professional theatre company Forest Forge, who are visiting the village after Christmas to present their own unique take on the well-known children’s book The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aitken.
