Yapton election

Electors in Yapton face voting in a by-election less than a year after the last poll. One of the village's district councillors, Christopher Forrester, has resigned with immediate effect. He stood down for health reasons. Mr Forrester was elected to Arun District Council last May as a Conservative. He came second among the five candidates with 774 votes. His majority over his nearest challenger was 483.

A by-election will be held if enough villagers request one. Mr Forrester's resignation leaves the political make-up of the district council unaffected. It just reduces the number of Tory councillors to 41 out of 56 seats.
