Yapton pub is gnome from gnome

A Yapton pub has become a gnome home.

The overnight appearance of the 50 garden-dwellers at The Lamb for gnome good reason has mystified its licensee.

Justin Whayman woke on Tuesday to see the uninvited guests enjoying themselves in the middle of his beer garden.

He said: "I don't know how they got there or who put them there or why.

"I went to bed at 3am on Tuesday and they weren't there just before that when I let the dogs out.

"But when I woke up at 8am and went outside I could see all their eyes staring at me."

Many of the gnomes are obviously relatives because they look the same. They are enjoying various traditional gnomic activities such as reading a book and fishing.

Mr Whayman said he was at loss how to handle the pub's new status as a gnome from gnome.

He hoped publicity would reveal the reason for their appearance.

"It would be nice to know where they came from and why there are here," he said.

His initial thoughts were to raffle the gnomes for charity in the next weeks to provide them with loving homes and raise money for a good cause. It is the first incident of its kind in the 18 months he has been running the Bilsham Road pub.
