yobs back, again

LOCAL yobs are back with a vengeance, causing problems in Sompting again.

The Herald reported last month how gangs of youths were causing havoc on the evening service buses in Test Road and Loose Lane and hanging around the Alldays shop in Test Road, shouting abuse and vandalising the cashpoint machine.

Action by the bus company and local police seemed to stamp out the problem for a couple of weeks, but now the problems have returned.

Lancing-based Sergeant Kevin Jenkins said: "We are again getting regular groups of 10 or more youths hanging around Hamble recreation ground and Test Road by Alldays during the weekend afternoons and weekday evenings.

"They are causing damage and using abusive and threatening behaviour.

"This is unpleasant for the residents and shoppers. There is no easy answer to the problem, but police patrols will be stepped up yet again and action taken.

"I again make it clear to these youths that their behaviour is anti-social.

"We will prosecute them where evidence exists and obtain parenting orders against their parents or guardians.

"Some parents have already taken notice, but it is time for those who haven't to do so.

"Otherwise you and your child will be taken before the court to explain your behaviour.

"We are determined to resolve the problems in this area."
