Yobs sink to new low

VANDALS have burned down one of the most popular pieces of play equipment in the new play area at Lancing Manor Park.

The fire, which caused 3,000-worth of damage to the pod swing, had to be put out by firefighters at 2.30am on Saturday.

Two North Lancing businessmen are so appalled by the attack that they have put up a 200 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the arson.

it is disgusting that these yobs come up here and start setting fire to it."

An angry mother who took her daughter and her two friends to the playground for the first time during half-term last week

said: "They had a lovely time at the play area and they especially loved swinging in the pod together, which was large enough for them all to sit in.

"It is despicable that these mindless yobs think they can just go around burning down play equipment which younger children really enjoy."

Adur Watch officers inspected the damage on Saturday morning and found more than 20 broken glass bottles near the remains of the burnt out pod.

The swing was taped off but the park, opened in August, remains open.

Adur Watch manager, Clive Bramble said: "If anyone sees criminal damage being committed they should report it to the

police. This mindless attack will now deprive children who loved playing on this swing."

On Tuesday, Adur council announced it would be repairing the pod and, hopefully, it would be back in action within a month.
