Young Curators Exhibition at DLWP

THE De La Warr Pavilion has invited 16 young people to curate an exhibition of work by their peers to be shown in the galleries from 5th May to 3rd June.

This unique project, a process taking over three months, is an opportunity for young people who are studying art at GSCE and A level to discover and explore what really goes on behind the scenes in a gallery, from initial discussions on themes and concepts to the design of the publicity and the actual hanging of the selected works. Guided by artist Sharon Haward, and key members of the DLWP team, this committed group of students will meet (out of school hours) at DLWP every week and during the school holidays to follow a process which will enable them to understand and have to confidence to curate a major exhibition in a nationally-acclaimed gallery which will be seen by the public at large. The exhibition is has the working title of entitled Conflict and will be shown from 5th May to 3rd June.

Polly Gifford, Head of Education at the Pavilion says "This project demonstrates the Pavilion's commitment to young people and their creative development. We will work with them in the same way as we work with professional guest curators, whilst at the same time guiding the process to ensure that they develop their existing skills, develop new interests and put on a show at the end! We are looking forward to an extremely interesting and thought-provoking show from this group of extraordinary people!"

The exhibition runs from 5th May until 3rd June. Free entry. For more information phone 01424 229111
