Young dancers in Bognor can reach for the stars

Pom-pom dancers are hoping to take to the stage in Bognor Regis for the first time.

The Southern Starlights' Pom Pom Troupe wants to become involved in drama and putting on a panto.

Its members will be helped in this goal by an 875 grant they have received from Arun District Council.

The money has come from the council's grant aid initiative and will buy new uniforms and pom-poms.

Southern Starlights' leader Zoe Clark said: "We are recruiting new children, young people and adult volunteers on a regular basis since we moved the project to the Bognor Regis Youth and Community Centre in Westloats Lane.

"We have exciting plans for the future. In the coming months, we are hoping to start a drama group and, with the help of other organisations, we will deliver a community pantomime, Mother Goose, engaging the local community."

The grant was presented by an Arun councillor for Pevensey ward where the troupe is based.

Cllr Trevor Bence said: "This troupe means a great deal to local children. It gives them the opportunity to get some good exercise and entertainment.

"The entire community benefits from projects like them."
