Young entrepreneurs in Seahaven have the chance to create and develop their own business ideas as part of a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style competition.
The Seahaven Young Entrepreneur Scheme, launched and sponsored by the Newhaven Chamber of Commerce and several local companies, will see 12 youngsters pitch their ideas to a panel of business people.
Applicants will be invited to attend a half-day workshop where, with the help of mentors, they will work on refining their ideas into a comprehensive business plan and given advice on how to ‘pitch’ their idea.
The competition, which is open to youngsters in Seahaven and the surrounding area, will be split into two age groups.
The best six ideas from the 16-18 years section and the best six from the 19-26 years section will be selected.
The winner of the 16-18 year category will win a trophy, a cash prize of £200 and media exposure.
The winner of the 19-26 year category will win a bespoke trophy, a cash prize of £500, media exposure. The 19-26 group winner will also receive a package of benefits including two years of Newhaven Chamber membership, 12 months of one to one mentoring and advice from a range of business leaders.
The prizes will be presented at an awards ceremony at the UTC in Newhaven in mid November.
Additional sponsorship for the competition is being provided by Veolia, Mike Shorer Fine Jewellery and other local companies.
The closing date for submission of entries is Friday, September 23.
