Young fans keep eye on ball for feast of footie in Bognor

Young footballers and their fans should keep September 14 clear in their diaries.

The Sunday will see the first Bognor West Footie Fest being held.

The five-a-side tournament will be for children in two age groups, eight and unders and under-10. Both winners will gain a trophy.

The venue will be Rose Green Junior School in Raleigh Road between 2pm and 6pm. Plenty of sideshows will add to the fun.

The Footie Fest is the idea of Fiona Rhodes and Susan Watson, from Girlguiding Bognor Regis West Rangers.

These are the 'big sisters' of rainbows, brownies and guides.

Fiona (26) and Susan (20) are planning to go to India next year with other members of their group. They decided to organise the football to raise funds for the trip after gauging interest in the event.

Fiona said: "We wanted to do something that would involve children in having a good time as well as bringing in some much-needed funds for our adventure."

Susan stated: "Experienced football event organisers are helping us to do this right as we don't want anyone to feel let down."

The tournament will consist of four seven-minute games taking place at a time.

It is open to any teams of five children in the age groups.

The rangers are planning to go to India in November 2009. They will stay at Sangam, the Girl Guide World Centre in Pune for ten days to help local schools through a community service project. This will be followed by a sightseeing trip.
