Young horse breeder wins acclaim

A young horse breeder from Little Common has received recognition for breeding possible future champions.

23 year old Lianne Verity won three coveted Higher First Premiums at the Baileys Horse Feed/British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Futurity Evaluations held recently at Plumpton College, showing that the horses she has bred may well be destined to reach the very top of their sport.

The BEF Futurity Evaluation series aims to identify British bred young potential sport horses and ponies destined for careers in dressage, eventing, show-jumping or endurance, and perhaps even Olympic champions of the future.

Lianne, of My Spires Stud at Constables Farm off Barnhorn Road, entered three of her home-bred foals in the evaluations and received great feedback from the panel of expert judges.

The young breeder's top scoring foal, My Spires Another Joy, who was entered in the eventing section, scored 8.89, the highest eventing score of the day. The judges described her as "a beautifully proportioned foal with a nice bold attitude."

My Spires Miss Liberty was entered in the dressage section and scored 8.61 and My Spires Rain Dance, also entered in the dressage section, scored 8.54.

A Higher First premium indicates that the horse has the potential and outlook to perform well at top level.

A delighted Lianne said: "I am over the moon and completely overwhelmed with these results.

"I take them to the BEF Futurity Evaluations so that I can get feedback on what I am breeding and if they do well it is a good selling point as all of my foals are for sale."

Lianne, who has owned and worked with horses since the age of six, started the stud when she was just 21 with the purchase of her first two Warmblood mares.

She is assisted by her father who helps out with maintenance and tractor driving, and commented: "If it weren't for my dad putting up with me at home and using his land for the horses, then I couldn't have achieved what I have. No words can describe how grateful I am to him and I appreciate it so much."
