The woman was walking along London Road near the junction with Whitemans Green at about 3am this morning (Tuesday May 17) when she was approached by a man, officers said.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “After a brief conversation, the man sexually assaulted the woman by touching her over her clothing, before he walked away in the direction of Whitemans Green. The woman was left unhurt but in a distressed state.”

The suspect is described as a white man, about 30-years-old, between 5’ 8” and 5’ 10”. He had short brown spiky hair, was slightly overweight with chubby cheeks, and had a round chin and dark stubble.

Detective Sergeant Karrie Bohanna said: “We are appealing to anyone in the Cuckfield area in the early hours of the morning who might have seen what happened. We are specifically appealing to car drivers the woman attempted to flag down following the incident.

“The woman is being supported by family and is assisting police at this time. Patrols in the area are being increased, and we ask that people remain vigilant and report anyone acting suspiciously.”

Anyone who saw what happened or who has any information is asked to contact police on [email protected] or call 101, quoting 111 of 17/05.
