Young writers invited to join The Squad

YOUNG writers in the Rye area have been given a voice with the formation of the Rye Writer Squad.

The Squad, a partnership by New Writing South, the literature development agency for the south east, and The School Creative Centre, Rye, meet monthly to explore a wide range of writing styles, from poetry to playwriting and lyrics to flash fiction and supporting the development of young writers in the region

Rye Writer Squad was facilitated by professional playwright, Christine Harmar Brown and storyteller, Hilary Watkins.The nine young writers were selected based on their enthusiasm for creative writing.

One of the participants described the squad as, ‘an opportunity to explore yours and other people’s writing; an incredible experience I will never forget.’

The Squad is now recruiting for the second year, which will start in September. There are eight places available and the selection process is via submission of a short written piece.

Applications can received up to Friday 7 September 2012

The eight lucky writers will be contacted by Friday 14 September. There is a small fee of £30 for the course, bursaries are available.
