Youngest exhibitor at Chelsea Flower Show scoops Silver Gilt

A garden designer from Henfield who scooped a Silver Gilt for his garden is the youngest ever exhibitor at Chelsea’s Flower Show.

Jack Dunckley, 20, nursery manager at Jack Dunckley’s Birchfield Nursery, won with his garden ‘Juxtaposition’ at the 100th Year Anniversary show.

He said: “I’ve never designed there before but I was there two years ago with a trade stand. I’m the youngest person that has designed there It’s fantastic and a surprise to win such a high medal on my first go at Chelsea which is brilliant.

Jack, who studied at the London College of Garden Design has made appearances on programmes such as Gardeners World and his television interviews have been seen as far afield as Australia and New Zealand.

His award-winning garden, which he also done in aid of Horticultural charity Perrennial, was inspired by large tropical foliage and contrasting it with the desert.

He explained: “Juxtaposition was a garden based on two very different sides. One side is very arrid and dry like a desert and it juxtaposes the other side which is very lush, calm, tranquil and colourful and it’s divided up by perspex screens.”

“I’m working on going again next year with a bigger garden and aim for the youngest gold medal.”
