Youngsters receive Dieppe Market prizes

LOCAL youngsters scooped prizes in competitions at the recent Dieppe Market held on Denton Island, Newhaven.

LOCAL youngsters scooped prizes in competitions at the recent Dieppe Market held on Denton Island, Newhaven.

Seven-year-old George Burton-Durham was the winner of the penalty shoot-out and received an Arsenal football shirt from Steve Jupp, manager of the Denton and South Heighton Under 9 team, who organised the competition.

Local schools also entered a Newhaven Chamber of Commerce-organised painting competition.

Grays School won first prize in the ages 5-7 category. Pupils were presented with a 250 book voucher for their school by Jeanette Brown from Sussex Downs College.

Denton School also won a 250 book voucher for ages 8-11. Ben Neylan, Alex Baxter, Sarah Wood, Lewis Newcombe, Emily Beard and head teacher Diane Scott received their prize from president of Newhaven Chamber of Commerce Norman Mayhew.

Other winners included Southdown School pupils Hannah Woods, Alles Wise, Joe Upton, Rebecca Thomas, Roxanne Parker and Heidi Aveline.
