Your local West Meads GP is just a mouse click away

Patients at West Meads Surgery have become the first in the area to be able to book a GP appointment online.

The internet service also allows them to order prescriptions through a website. The service was officially launched on Mondayafter being on trial for the previous few weeks.

It is as easy to use as a cash machine to enable patients with limited computer skills to enjoy the benefits.

Trainee doctor Neil Iosson, who previously worked in computer programming, developed the system as part of his studies to become a GP.

He said: 'It was really important to me that we harnessed the power of the internet to help our local patients. I thought that, if you can order your shopping or a pizza through the web, why not doctor's services?

'I wanted to make it easy for them to order their medicines without having to leave their houses.

'Now, they can order from home and even have their tablets delivered to their door. That's really important if you are housebound or looking after an elderly relative.'

Senior GP Dr Nick Rowse is delighted with the new website.

'It's really made a difference,' he said. 'Now, if you're at work, home or even in bed you can easily book an appointment that suits you, 24 hours a day, with the doctor you want.'

The system works with a secure password for each of the 7,001 patients at the practice in The Precinct. A list of medicines prescribed for each patient can be clicked for those which need to be re-ordered.

For appointments, a list of the seven doctors, and two trainees, and times is shown for a month in advance.

Patients Helga and Henry Matthews, from Aldwick, have been among those trying out the service.

Mrs Matthews said: 'It's great. It's so simple and we can order our medicines very easily.'

A new website '“ www.westmeadssurgery.co.uk '“ has also been set up to make life even easier for patients.
