20mph speed limit should be for residential areas

I can but agree with the letter from R Hammond last week regarding the 20mph speed restriction through the town.

When it might be useful it isn’t needed and when the streets are empty of children it is of no use. If it had to be done, then it should have been on the residential streets which are more hazardous and only between 8am and 8pm.

I also note the comment about consultation. These are always self serving, as those campaigning for something dominate the responses and, on road matters, no attempt is made to consult with car drivers, many of whom will not live in the town. Yet drivers are usually the most adversely effected and the roads were, after all, built for them.
