What more proof do we need to see that the A22 Uckfield bypass has reached its sell by date.
With all the roadworks chaos in the town centre, the bypass cannot cope with the extra traffic.
Back in 2009, ESCC highways more or less condemned the bypass by stating any further development in Uckfield will give rise to the issue of capacity on the A22 bypass due to it already operating close to its intended design capacity at peak periods.
Since then, 350 more houses have been built, with a further 1,000 planed for Ridgewood Farm with another roundabout on the bypass, 113 behind the hospital at Harlands and 14 along side St Phillips School in New town.
This could see a couple of thousand more vehicles using the bypass and the town centre car parks, and our councils want to scrap high street parking!
Before any building starts, the bypass needs to be upgraded to at least three lanes.
