Celebrating life not death

It was announced that around 200 Christians carrying a large cross will leave St Leonard’s Church, Seaford, and proceed through the town on Good Friday morning. No doubt the purpose of this exercise is to remind people of the Easter gorefest. It will be witnessed by young children.

Easter is one of many spring festivals. The name derives from the spring goddess (Eostre) reminding us of our pagan past. It is part of a wider culture celebrating fertility and life, not violence and death.

Although Easter is regarded by nearly all Christians as their most important festival, why does its date stagger around the calender like a priest’s housekeeper who has been sampling the cooking sherry?
