Cheaper to unite East and West Sussex

EAST Sussex County Council’s plans to relocate County Hall would be unnecessary if the two counties of East and West Sussex were to reunite, as Lewes would again be the centre of the county of Sussex and the waste of money this relocation will cost could be avoided.

There would also be considerable savings in salaries as one united county would not require two Chief Executives and other duplicated senior positions, as well as possible savings on offices etc.

However nobody seems to be concerned that the two counties have identical sets of senior officers, when the total population and geographic area is more or less the same as the neighbouring counties of Kent and Hampshire, both of which manage to administer themselves perfectly well with just the one Chief Executive et al!
