I read the Sussex Express each week and I wondered if you or any of your readers might be able to help me.
Over the past few months, I’ve been building a family tree to better understand my family history and discover more about my great grandfather Edward Albert Thorpe.
He was born on May 21, 1906, in Lewes and married Louise Tester in 1929.
Recently someone told me that Edward (although many knew him as Ted) during his early twenties was a excellent and popular drummer with a Jazz band that regularly played at the town hall.
This must have been before 1929 as he gave up drumming soon after getting married.
During WW2 he served with the RAF as a ground mechanic and later worked for the Asham Cement Works. He died at his home in Lewes in October 10, 1971, at the age of 65.
If anyone knows anything or has any more information about Ted Thorpe, please do get in touch. You’re welcome to email me at email@example.com.
