In the letter to the Sussex Express on August 5, G Ashbrook rightly says that the previous ‘Welcome to Newhaven’ was situated adjacent to the Drove Roundabout.
This was removed when the cycle track to the south of the Drove was constructed. East Sussex County Council Highways were then asked to re-install the sign in a position which better reflected the parish boundary of Newhaven and Seaford on the A259. This is just to the east of Stud Farm.
With regards to the sign at Peacehaven Golf Club on the A259, this is also within a few yards of the parish boundary between Newhaven and Peacehaven. In summary, the positions of both signs represent parish boundaries and are not intended to indicate Royal Mail Post Code areas.
