Let’s make Seaford beach’s ‘over the wall’ access a thing of the past

During the winter months, walking along the seafront at Seaford, you may have experienced the dread of climbing over the wall to get into town, or suffered the inconvenience of trying to cope with the ESCC Flood Defence Boards from the Causeway.

The Gateway Project Group is advocating updating and replacing the antiquated overused flood defence boards/timbers with self closing storm gates, fit for purpose.

We would like to hear about your experiences-difficulties with a wheel chair, as a dog owner, carrying shopping, do you find it physically difficult to climb over the wall.... There is a solution..

In Eastbourne the flood gates only close when a storm is imminent, kept open when the weather is calm.

Visitors/tourists demand access to the sea, with over 60 hotels, the authorities are more aware of the impact on the town keeping the storm gates open during the winter months.

February was the warmest month in history, thousands of residents and visitors descended on Seaford bay, summer had arrived early, many had to clamber over the wall to enjoy our natural unspoilt shingle beach.

We would like to solve the problem, welcome your views and experiences over the winter, as with all issues unless we focus on the immediate concern, it remains unchanged.

Seaford deserves better, so next winter over the wall access will be a distant memory.
