I write as the Chairman of Newhaven Twinning Association who recently visited the town of La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin to conclude the signing of the Twinning Charter and to unveil a twinning sign at the entrance to the town (“Mayor is given key to a dragon’s cave”, Sussex Express, February 3).

Many of the clubs and organisations, sporting and cultural, in La Chapelle are very interested in making links with their counterparts in Newhaven and surrounding area.

Newhaven Twinning Association would like to invite people who would be interested in visiting La Chapelle as a group or hosting visitors to Newhaven to join us at an open evening in Meeching Hall at 7pm on Monday, February 20, where we will show photographs and share experiences from the recent visit, and share contact details of any clubs and organisations.

La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin is situated on the banks of the Loire, on the outskirts of Orléans.

We are also holding fund-raising events – pancake racing on Shrove Tuesday (February 21) hosted by Sainsbury’s in Drove Road at 11am and a quiz night at Newhaven Football Club on Friday, March 2, from 7.30pm.

All are welcome. For more details please call 01273 588193.

Norman Hopson,

Chairman of Newhaven Twinning Association
