I have read the article written by Olivia Lerche in the Sussex Express issued on the 12th February, 2016, regarding Victoria House Care Home in Polegate, and would like to know whether Olivia Lerche had been to visit Victoria House Care Home before she wrote the article, or whether she relied solely on the reports found on the CQC website.
I suspect she merely quoted the negative parts of the CQC reports, and did not take the time to visit Victoria House Care Home to view the care home for herself. Had she visited Victoria House she would have been able to include in her article, the many positive aspects relating to the care of the residents at the care home.
My mum has been a resident at Victoria House Care Home in Polegate for over a year, and has been well cared for, and she continues to be happy living there. My mum’s care needs, and her quality of life, are very important to me and if I was not happy with the care provided to her, I would have moved her to another care home.
The CQC reports relating to Victoria House Care Home in Polegate have been the subject of previous articles written in your newspaper, but I would be interested to know why you are not reporting on the other care homes, and nursing homes, which have also received unsatisfactory CQC reports.
Has Olivia Lerche researched all the care homes and nursing homes in this area, on the CQC website, to identify other homes which have also received unsatisfactory CQC reports? If she has, then your newspaper would contain more articles relating to ‘poor’ care and nursing homes in every issue. If she has not done this research, then I would suggest she does so!
In order to give your readers a better perspective of the many care homes and nursing homes in this area, I would suggest that you need to provide relevant information from the CQC reports relating to more homes. It will then become apparent that Victoria House is by no means the only care home in this area which has received a ‘poor’ CQC report.
