Rare beetles pay a visit

I was interested to read your item about these beetles (October 26) I live in Newhaven, grow roses, and have seen many of these beetles during the summer months.

The flight description is so accurate – they flew very fast in a straight line and crashed into everything in their path including windows. I agree that they looked spectacular but I must admit I was a little nervous of them when they flew straight at me. They all disappeared as quickly as they arrived, and by August there were none to be seen.

My garden has an uninterrupted view of the Ouse Valley, so perhaps the beetles flew non-stop from Lewes to Newhaven to take up residence in my rose bushes
