Rising danger for school children

Thank you for featuring me (Maureen Hood, Denton CP School’s Lollipop Lady) on the front cover of The Sussex Express (May 16).

I have worked as the lollipop lady for almost six years. I have seen a lot of changes. My crossing is increasingly busy (with motorists and pedestrians) – and increasingly dangerous.

I am very worried about the safety of those who cross the two roads I patrol (Acacia Rood and Denton Rood).

If motorists are reluctant to stop for me in my bright yellow gear, what chance will Denton’s parents and children have if there is no crossing?

The behaviour of some motorists means that I am at risk every time I am on patrol.

I would like to say a big thank you to Diane Hall for her fantastic interview. I hope she gets some answers to her questions about the funding and where the money goes.

I would also like to thank Pat Ost for his valuable support. In September we will have an additional class of Denton CP School; more children need to be kept safe.
