Socially just flood insurance urged

Many thanks for your article “Call for an End to Deadlock Over Flood Insurance’’ Sussex Express 7th December.

It is essential that the agreement, called the Statement of Principles, made between the government and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) in 2000 and ending in June 2013 is replaced.

It is crucial we have a framework which provides insurance that is readily available, that is affordable, which protects the vulnerable in society, and is socially just.

A body called The National Flood Forum has lobbied strongly for a just solution over insurance, nationally, for properties at risk of flooding. The forum has been instrumental in creating an online petition on the House of Commons website.
