I am somewhat dismayed to hear that the fine old inn in Warbleton known as the Warbill-in-Tun has had its name changed to ‘The Black Duck’.
I am locally born and bred, qualifying me as an old codger with both feet firmly in the past.
Surely changing the name is open to question and also the offering of opinions. I therefore ask:
1. Is the intent to stir up the natives? (job done)
2. The sighting of black ducks flying over Warbleton (doubtful)
3. Economic reasons (could be)
Views and comments from other readers and locals would be most welcome and perhaps you would be kind enough to allow them to be aired in your column. Nothing like getting a good hare running.
