Will our grandchildren be living in a post-Brexit Britain in economic decline?

It bears repeating that, by and large, Leavers are pensioners and the unskilled unemployed.

The government and not Brussels is mainly responsible for lack of work in blighted areas, and nostalgia and rose-tinted glasses distort reality for grandparents whose actions might, just might, mean that their grandchildren will live in a post-Brexit Britain with a declining economy.

Gove and Johnson were economical (and opportunistic) with the truth during the referendum and Rees-Mogg has moved his company’s headquarters into the EU while demanding that his country leaves the world’s richest market. Polite words fail me!

Fortunately, reality is alive and well across the chanel. Leading industrialists, including the bosses of Airbus and Daimler and the leaders of Germany’s Social Democrats, Christian Democrats and the Greens recently said in The Times: ‘Without your great nation, this continent would not be what it is today: a community defined by freedom and prosperity. After the horrors of the Second World War, Britain did not give up on us. It has welcomed Germany back as a sovereign nation and a European power. This we, as Germans, have not forgotten and we are grateful.’

They also said they would miss ‘the legendary British black humour’ and, most importantly, ‘Britons should know from the bottom of our hearts, we want them to stay.’

And so do those younger Britons who know that their future is yet to come.
