Youth clubs in Littlehampton provide '˜valuable service'

The Project 82 Youth Service operates across Littlehampton in three different locations, The Flintstone Centre, Southfields Jubilee Centre and The Keystone Centre.

Project manager Emma Biffi said: “Youth clubs have a valuable role in communities and can make a big difference in the lives of many young people.

“Benefiting youngsters by broadening their social circle, and therefore often the quality of their peer relationships, youth clubs also provide activities and entertainment, as well as the opportunity for informal, respectful relationships, with both other young people and adults alike.”

There is a seven-strong team of experienced youth workers, who aim to build positive relationships and give members support and guidance.

Emma said: “They help to ease the transition from childhood to adulthood by facilitating space for reflection and offering information and just enough organisation.

“The service operates four nights a week, giving young people a low-cost place to go outside of school where they can enjoy a sense of belonging.

“The young people are involved in both the running of the club and choosing the activities.

“A place to develop new skills or to play a variety of sports, watch DVDs or just to sit and chat, each centre has its own kitchen, making cooking a very popular activity. Other favourite activities include arts and crafts and music workshops.”

Project 82 also offers a young leaders scheme, available to all young people aged 13 and over. The scheme enables young people to give something back to their community and assist the youth work team in delivering the club sessions.

Fun, fulfilling and teaching important life skills, full training and support is provided.

Southfields Jubilee Centre sessions on Tuesdays, 7pm to 9pm, for school years seven to 11.

The Flintstone Centre sessions are on Wednesdays, 6pm to 7.30pm for years seven to nine, 8pm to 9.30pm for years ten onwards.

The Keystone Centre sessions are on Thursdays, 4pm to 5.30pm for years four to six, 5pm to 6.30pm for years seven to nine.
