John Barnes, current Chairman of East Sussex County Council, said: "I am very glad that Audrey Norcross has given her consent to the idea of dedicating the Youth Orchestra concert to the memory of her husband. Amongst his many other activities, Derek was a great supporter of music in the county". The concert will involve a full performance of one of Anton Bruckner's most popular works, the Seventh Symphony. This work features the comparatively rare orchestration for four Wagner tubas as well as full symphony orchestra.
