A Sussex garden centre used the occasion to employ its first Apprentice.

Paul Bergin has begun his training at South Downs Nurseries in Hassocks within the store’s busy cycle department.

His manager, Robert Mitchel, said: “It’s fantastic to be working with Paul. He is very enthusiastic, learning the necessary skills and product knowledge very quickly and has already become an asset to the team.

The twenty year-old from Hassocks will shortly complete his Cytech training.

“This will give him a nationally-recognised qualification in cycle mechanics,” explained Robert.

In his first few days, Paul has already been busy dealing with customers and servicing bicycles.

Paul’s apprenticeship will last for a year after which he will be eligible to join the team as a fully-qualified cycle mechanic.
