Youth group to be launched in Newhaven for over 16s

A new youth group will be launched in Newhaven at The Breakout Centre on Wednesday October 9 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

New Vision is for young people aged 16 plus and is being run by youth worker Sara Alexander.

The sessions will be a mix of chill out social time, opportunities for discussions and practical activities such as cooking.

Organisers want suggestions from new members which will influence the future activities at the club.

Sara, who is a youth worker at St Michael’s Church in Newhaven, also runs Rock Solid Youth Club for 11-16 year olds at Shakespeare Hall.

She said: “Once young people feel they have outgrown our current youth group, they tend to leave.

“This new group is aimed at continuing the relationship with the older teenagers in supporting them with advice and information on lots of different areas of their lives.

“I’ve been involved in youth work in Newhaven for the last ten years so I receive lots of information regarding training, work experience and job opportunities from a variety of different organisations.

“New Vision will provide the opportunity to pass on this information to the youth of the town.”

Teacher Louise Payne, who has worked with unemployed young adults, will run the group with Sara.

Louise added: “We also hope to be able to mentor the young people and help them to decide which direction they want to take in life.

“We hope to help them realise the opportunities there are available to them.”
