Bridge Cottage is hosting the Uckfield South of the River exhibition which focuses on the community surrounding Framfield Road and New Town following the arrival of the railway in Uckfield in 1857.

A thriving residential and commercial community grew in the area so that residents could buy everything they needed and run daily errands without travelling to Uckfield High Street.

Many of the, now closed, shops in the area are commemorated through the exhibition including Bannister’s, Uckfield Laundry, Lion Brewery, Tyhursts, and the old fire station.

Uckfield South of the River will be open every day from 10am - 3pm at Bridge Cottage, High Street, Uckfield until Saturday, February 1.
