A spokesperson said: “The Royal Navy is proud to support these awards to help highlight and celebrate the hard work, dedication and commitment to Apprenticeships from both individuals and organisations across Portsmouth, Chichester and their surrounding areas.”

How does it work?

An apprenticeship with the Royal Navy usually takes 12-18 months. After that, you can progress to a long-term career with great rewards. There are around 20 different apprenticeship types available each year. Many require no formal qualifications but do need enthusiastic candidates with a drive to learn and thirst for adventure.

Ratings learn a trade and can then move through the ranks to officer training. Their salaries start at around £20,000 during basic training, increasing on completion, up to more than £50,000.

Fast track apprenticeships are available for those with a level three college diploma or A-Levels in maths and physics.
