25 years in show ring come to an end

AFTER 25 years of showing hunters with outstanding success, John Dunlop has decided to call it a day in the show ring. His hunters are to be sold at Ascot Sales in a special lot on November 3.

Better known in his other role as a racehorse trainer at Castle Stables, Arundel, Mr Dunlop has been widely respected for the top class show hunters he has bred and shown regularly with great success at top level.

At the Horse of the Year Show this month he achieved the ultimate with Finn McCool III and Guy Landau taking the Hunter Championship for the second consecutive year and his grey mare Little Alice taking Reserve Championship after a superb year in which she won three times and went on to be champion at Royal Malvern and Supreme Champion at the Hunter Show.

Earlier in the year Guy Landau and Finn McCool finally claimed the Royal International Horse Show title that had until now eluded them until now. At the Sports Horse Breeding (GB) national championship show at Addington Manor., having already earned the ridden hunter tricolour, the winning lightweight Finn McCool took the Overall Supreme Ridden title.
